A world you like with the climate you like

The European Commission's Campaign
for Climate Change is launched

Commissioner for Climate Action Connie Hedegaard during her speech

The launch of the EC Campaign for Climate Change was a magnificent event. The enthusiasm of the Commissioner Connie Hedegaard was all over the room. She commented:
"... the big challenge for us in Europe today is how to combine the economy; job situation; and the resource-environment-climate crisis. And I would argue – and that is the main message of this campaign – that it is doable, and not only in theory. ..."
"...Through this campaign we want to bring those smart, climate-friendly solutions to the fore. We want to show what you can do as an individual, what businesses can do, and what we can achieve jointly in Europe, if we learn from each other. That is one of our big challenges in Europe. We have many good examples out there, but we are not good at bringing these to the scale we need, at the speed we need and to learn from one another. So spreading the best practices is part of the solution ..."

London City Hall. The event room

"...Building a world you like, with a climate you like won’t make our lives dull and grey. Are we going back to the stone ages? Are we giving up our comfortable lives? No, we don't. It is about appealing products, which are climate friendly and improve the quality of life at the same time; it is about healthier cities with better mobility and cleaner air; it is about smart and creative solutions. It is simply about using the knowledge we already have.
There are already many inspirational solutions out there. On the website of our campaign, a world you like. With a climate you like, we have collected examples from each of the EU's 27 member states.
Let me mention some:
· A train station in Stockholm transforms the body heat of train commuters into energy that is used to heat a nearby office building - cutting energy bills significantly.
· A Greek entrepreneur has invented a solar-powered lift for apartment buildings that can operate day and night.
· In Germany, houses are being built that produce enough surplus energy to power an electric car for a whole year.
· In Denmark, the Gedved school has installed solar power panels and now saves money on their heating bills – money they can spend on education.
· And here in London, there is an organization which allows you to use your neighbor's car when it is standing idle.
The list of examples is long; this campaign is about getting these to scale. ..."

It was a great honor for us to be mentioned in Commissioner's speech. The selection of solar lift for the Climate Change Campaign is already an achievement. We hope that our efforts to bring new green ideas into practice will find ally the efforts of the European Commission towards this direction.

EU Commission votes for Solar Lift

On October 8th 2012, in London City Hall, is launched the European Campaign for Climate Change 2012. The EU Commission - Directorate General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) is preparing the last few months a communication campaign for Climate Change.
The campaign "A world you like. With the Climate you likewill be supported by a site specially prepared for the campaign. Through the Eco-Innovation Observatory, the commission selected a representation of an innovative project from every state member of EU. These projects were filmed by a filming company from Berlin, authorized by the Commission. The films will be uploaded to the campaign's site and will be accessible after 8th October. The films will be translated in all EU official languages.
Greece is represented by the Solar Home Lift to this campaign.

During the launching event, there will be 5 discussion groups (labs) with the following issues:
1) Travel & transport
2) Shopping & eating
3) Building & living
4) Innovative production
5) Re-use & recycling
There will also be panel discussion with high-level representatives of leading businesses and organizations. All representatives of Eco-innovative projects are invited to be there to contribute to the common effort for a better world.

After 10th October we will inform from this site how to access the film for solar lift in the EU Climate Change Campaign site.

A few things for DG - CLIMA

The Directorate-General for Climate Action ("DG CLIMA") was established in February 2010, climate change being previously included in the remit of DG Environment of the European Commission. It leads international negotiations on climate, helps the EU to deal with the consequences of climate change and to meet its targets for 2020, as well as develops and implements the EU Emissions Trading System.

The children of the sun

The next generation is the first generation that will widely use the renewable power sources and especially the power of the sun. Our children will be forced to use these sources because when their time comes, petrol may exist only in museums. The population on earth is increasing and fuels are getting more expensive every day. Tesla used to say that we are surrounded by energy that we are incapable of using. This starts to change and we must all fight to this direction.
Energy dependence is a very important issue for the future. The decisions made and the action taken on this problem will determine our lives in the near future. Imagine how our lives would be if the energy we could have available was free and unlimited. Someone could say that this is too good to get true but in order to make something true you must first dream of it.
MEZOLIFT dears to dream of a future where people are energy independent and energy is more than enough for all people on this planet. People tend to describe these types of energy as “renewable” power sources but we believe that the term “renewable” just hides the potential of these power sources which is described by the terms “unlimited” and “inexhaustible”. The power of the sun is a good example of an “unlimited” and “inexhaustible” power source. Technology is not focusing on the solar energy because it is “renewable” but more important because it is “unlimited”. The deposits of oil on this planet are not “renewable” but solar power is “inexhaustible”, not just renewable. I hope the reader can understand the difference in the use of words as well as the power or the weakness they hide inside them.
Our philosophy on energy showed to us the way to make people independent on their vertical transportations and enjoy the freedom that power independence can offer. By creating the solar lift we did not created just a lift that consumes little energy, but we created an independent machine that makes people who use it also independent people. The importance of this fact is huge. It is a new era that humanity enters but very few people can see it coming. Someone could ask where the independence is since even with a lift plugged in the net you still have vertical transportations done. The big difference is on WHO CONTROLS THE POWER SWITCH.
Recently in India a huge blackout on the electricity grid left more than 680.000.000 people without power. No newspaper said how many people died because of this blackout and how weak and dependent all people felt in India. I do know how many people were trapped in lifts, the metro, in coal mines, traffic lights were off and people were stuck in their cars, water was lost for millions of people and their lives were in danger because of lack of energy.

This is what newspapers report for the blackout :
… Another culprit may be northern Indian states drawing more power from the country's grid than they were allotted. India has circuit breakers to cut off power to states that overdraw, but state officials may have told the circuit breaker personnel not to shut off their power, Surendra Rao, former chairman of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission, told the New York Times. Federal officials will penalize overdrawing states, Shinde told the New York Times. … (http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=why-india-just-suffered)
It is obvious that the lives of millions of people (and not only in India) are attached to circuit breakers and decisions that a few people will take.

The question now is how our children will survive in a planet where energy is something not necessarily available for everyone and of course in limited quantities. We believe that the era of the sun is rising. Solar energy will lead humanity to energy independence and our children will built their lives on free and unlimited energy given by the sun or the stars.
We made a small step by creating a solar lift. Solar lift has many advantages but we believe that the best thing it can offer to people is hope for a future with energy independent people.

Traction VS Hydraulic. Who is going to create the atomic bomb first?

The war between traction and hydraulic lifts is still on going. There are still the traction fans and from the other side the oily fans. In this conflict many weapons have been used from both sides. Advantages and disadvantages are being promoted or minimized depending on the side you are.
In this battle a new weapon appears. A weapon that may give the win to the one or the other side. It will be impossible for both sides to take advantage of this weapon. It will be so powerful that its use will mean the end of the war and the prevail of one side, in the same way the atomic bomb ended the World War II.
This weapon is called renewable power sources.
How renewable power sources are going to affect the future of traction and hydraulic lifts? Can both types of lifts use renewable sources of power? If they can not, how are they going to enter the new 'green' era?
All big multinational lift companies have chosen the MRL traction lift with PM motor technologies adopted. Smaller companies are using advanced hydraulic systems with hi-tech control for energy efficiency and better drive quality.
However neither side managed yet to use the benefits of renewable power sources and give the opponent the final strike.
Let we suppose that a company that produces hydraulic lifts, finds a way somehow to use a very small system with renewable power sources and enters the market. The impact will be so severe to the big multinational traction lift companies that they will be forced to spend in very short time, billions of dollars in order to strike back and do not loose the game before it even starts.
On the other side if a big multinational traction lift company shows up with the same small system, then hydraulic industries will be unable to respond in the challenge and the game will soon come to an end.
This is the reason that many manufacturers adopted both types of lifts in order to make sure that they are on the winner side no matter who wins.

We believe that the war is coming to its end. It is time for the planet to have a technological piece. This can be only achieved when the benefit of the final users is under consideration and not only the shareholders profit. The technology has as a purpose to make our lives better, not to make the 0,1% of the population extremely rich.

From now on, whoever speaks about energy efficiency must give a measurement of this efficiency with the unit of renewable power sources. To put it bluntly the question is: "You have power efficiency? How much this costs to move with renewable power sources?

Solar Home Lift - MEZUS SOLAR by Mezolift

Greek company Mezolift is the first company in the world to have created a solar lift for small houses. The solar lift was first presented in September, during the International Expo of Thessaloniki 2011.
Until now, the solar lift is being used in duplex apartments or small blocks of flats with 3 to maximum 4 floors. Its special design makes it ideal to fit even in the smallest of places. The product’s dynamics are subject to evolve and improve. Mezolift aims to create a lift to cover the needs of people living and working in bigger apartment blocks”.
There are many people, who would like to use a solar lifts today. Solar lifts are the lifts of the future and can save a lot of money and energy. Mezolift is going to use all the experience that the first solar lift has offered and make many steps further into this technology.

Technical features and basic advantages:
  1. It consumes 80% less energy than common lifts
  2. It works with 2 photovoltaic panels and 2 rechargeable batteries
